In honor of Thanksgiving, Lighthouse President and CEO Jeff Van Fleet discusses his favorite tradition, which occurs during the annual Thanksgiving carry-in.
As part of our Thanksgiving tradition here at Lighthouse, we always have a big carry-in lunch. |
I hope this message finds you well. This is the wonderful time of year when we all have the opportunity to give thanks to the individuals that support us, guide us, and help us become better people.
As part of our Thanksgiving tradition here at Lighthouse, we always have a big carry-in lunch. Everyone brings a favorite dish to share, and we gather together to give thanks for what we have and spend quality time with each other. The relaxed, comforting setting makes it easy for us to connect and get to know one other better.
At the start of the event, we pause for another tradition. I ask everyone to spend a few moments in silence, recalling who and what they are thankful for. It’s our individual time to pause, reflect, and appreciate — and writing helps embolden it in our minds. We don’t share things out loud, but we each keep our pieces of Thanksgiving paper. I personally keep mine in my top desk drawer. That way I come across it multiple times throughout the coming year. When things get stressful, I can pull out that piece of paper, slow my mind, and remind myself of how much I have to appreciate.
If you don’t have a tradition similar to this in your family or work team, I recommend that you consider it. It really makes a difference. I’d also love to hear from you about your Holiday traditions that bring you closer to the ones you love and care about.
Keep having fun,
Jeff Van Fleet
